1800's Ephemera Gossip Bench

My most recent project was a real labor of love.
I got the gossip bench a few months ago, started painting it,
and ran into some troubles which I wrote about here -
After that, I put it aside and have been waiting for some inspiration on what to do with it.
That inspiration came when I purchased a huge lot
of women's magazines from the 1800's that I posted about here -
I used some leftover Valspar paint, then distressed it
and used Valspar Antique Glaze on it, then the fun part came...
adding the 1800's pages!
It sat for a few more days because I couldn't decide
what to cover the seat cushion with,
but fortunately, I was able to get 4 antique seed bags
at an auction.  They were all pretty dirty and stained,
so it was nip and tuck fitting one to the seat without
any unsightly stains showing.  The original wood base
was rotted, so my husband cut a new one for me.

It was worth the trouble and wait!

  2. WONDERFUL!!!!
    when i first got married,way back when!!..i wanted one of these...good thing i didin't or i'd still be on the phone!! these really are delightful!!
    love the convenience of a cell phone..but i must say I do miss the "heft" and feel of the good old black rotary dial phone!!! heck..I'm old enough to remember the "party line"..i can remember when i was about 6 trying to "sneak" a listen!!!

  15. Your gossip bench is wonderful. Oh how I have been searching for one of these. You are so lucky and what a fabulous job you did. Isn't it funny how sometimes it is hard to decide what to do and then all of a sudden you know? I love it :)
